Governance
At present, while the protocol is still in development, all contracts are owned by Royal. In the future, we expect to change to an onchain governance mechanism, and maybe even renounce some aspects of ownership.
What does ownership mean?
The owner 🔗 of the contracts can:
- Change and transfer usernames of Royal IDs 🔗. This is necessary because we trust users to provide their own usernames, so there’s no mechanism preventing a squatter from registering “Beatles”, for example.
- Set fees on user actions, for both Royal IDs 🔗 and provenance claims 🔗.
- Upgrade the contracts 🔗.
- Transfer or renounce ownership 🔗.
- Pause and unpause the protocol 🔗, which disables some writes.
- Withdraw ETH and tokens from the contract 🔗.
